Can you believe this?

For those of you who forget Ron Klink. Klink was the Democrat who ran the mealy mouthed forgettable campaign against Santorum in his last reelection effort. Now, the word is, that Klink will endorse Specter in his re-election bid against Joe Hoeffel. Fight back and sign up for the Hoeffel meetup!

alas

there is hope:

Vice President Dick Cheney spent about 20 minutes in Manager Joe Torre's office and in the clubhouse shaking hands with players before the Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox, 11-3, last night at Yankee Stadium.

...Cheney started watching the game from the private box of the Yankees' principal owner, George Steinbrenner, switched to a seat beside the Yankees' dugout for a few innings, then returned to Steinbrenner's box.

...

During the singing of "God Bless America" in the seventh inning, an image of Cheney was shown on the scoreboard. It was greeted with booing, so the Yankees quickly removed the image.

Kudos to Kerry

Kerry refuses to cross police union picket lines in his hometown. Good for him.

Pennsylvania Paper Endorses Kerry... And then Some!

Well, George Bush really has angered much of the country haven't they. John Kerry is considered by most to be less than impressive and yet he has brokered a record-breaking $100 million in second quarter fundraising (DailyKos has the goods). And today, the Philadelphia Daily News endorsed Kerry - and wrote a campaign Get out the Vote advertisement! Check out the Swing State Project for details.

I think it is quite clear that the anger of half of America is so palpable that it may simply knock Bush down before he ever gets to the finish line. Of course, things could change. We could end up waging war on Iran.

This is Not Victory

I don't how many truck bombs, car bombs, kidnappings, beheadings, and shootings it takes before we acknowledge that George Bush's war in Iraq has been a distraction and we are now losing the "war on terror". At one point do we stop and say, "What have we achieved?" and truly wonder about that. Before the Iraq invasion it was always dangerous to travel the world, but it has never been so dangerous for Americans and other nationals to travel as it is today. The paper's have mostly stopped making the deaths of soldiers headline news but our soldiers continue to die despite the lack of headline tributes. But the soldiers are only part of the story. In this morning's news we have this:

From Baghdad:

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Three General Electric employees and two security contractors were killed Monday in a fiery car bombing in central Baghdad, a company spokeswoman said.

The three killed worked for Granite Services Inc., a wholly-owned GE subsidiary, said Louise Binns, a GE spokeswoman in Brussels.

The two others killed were security contractors, Binns said.

"Nothing is more important than the safety of our employees and those supporting our efforts,'' Binns said in a statement. ``We have taken extraordinary measures to keep them safe and we will continue to work with the Coalition Provisional Authority and Iraqi authorities to protect our people. We remain committed to the reconstruction of Iraq.''

From Saudi Arabia:
(CNN) -- U.S. and Saudi authorities are searching for a missing American whom al Qaeda militants claim to have kidnapped after killing another U.S. citizen in Riyadh.

U.S. State Department spokesman Adam Ereli said he had no details about the claim on a Web site from a group called the Falluja Squadron, which identified the man. The department said it learned of the missing man on Saturday when the family contacted the embassy.

Umm. He's rich! He's rich! What? us? huh?

Terry Neal pokes some obvious fun at Republicans for making up a web-based game for their website to attack Kerry for being wealthy (unlike those failed oil men from Texas of course who are dirt poor). Anyhow, the absurdity is so obvious that even the press can't take it:

Asked what the point of this game was, RNC spokeswoman Christine Iverson said this was just the latest of four or five Web games the RNC has put on its Web site poking fun at Kerry. The most popular one so far was called Kerry vs. Kerry, which highlights the candidate's purported flip-flops on various issues over the years.

"Kerryopoly is yet another way to familiarize voters with John Kerry," she said. "It's interactive and a little more light-hearted."

But if most voters can't identify with Kerry's wealth, can they identify with Bush and Cheney's?

"I'm happy with what I just told you," she said.

Ha ha! "I'm happy with what I just told you."!!!! HA ha haha ha! I'm sure she is. I'm sure she is.

Bush Getting Worried... Seriously Worried!

This actually blew me away. There must be a development. Something must be up. From the AP Wire:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush has consulted an outside lawyer in case he needs to retain him in the grand jury investigation of who leaked the name of a covert CIA operative last year, the White House said Wednesday.

There was no indication that Bush is a target of the leak investigation, but the president has decided that in the event he needs an attorney's advice, ``he would retain him,'' White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan said.

The lawyer is Jim Sharp, Buchan said, confirming a report by CBS News.

``The president has said that everyone should cooperate in this matter and that would include himself,'' the spokeswoman said.

She deflected questions about whether Bush had been asked to appear before a grand jury in the case.

I just don't see Bush retaining a lawyer during an election year unless things are getting serious. It doesn't make any sense. Who wouldn't avoid this kind of headline?
